Swerve

Escalators are cool. They make climbing stairs easier, or if your like me, faster to run up. But since their invention over 100 years ago, no much has changed. They all essentially look the same.

Meet the next generation of escalators by Jack Levy. This new design has the ability to take curves.

This adds a whole new dimension of freedom for architects to play. Suddenly, escalators can be morphed to best fit the environment. They have to their ability to swerve due to their crescent shape, and that the escalator's loop is done in the horizontal plane, rather than underneath it.

But even more interesting, is the potential new applications of the escalator?

How many other old inventions exist that could use innovation to create a face lift?
